Periodic media-making assignments: 20%.  These will be ungraded other than to note whether you did them and how thoroughly.  That is, a superficial attempt or no product at all will gain you minus marks; the more thoroughly you do an assignment, the more plusses.  The evaluation is not based on how well you do an assignment (since previous experience and capability will vary) but whether you engage with the task.

Class participation: 10%

Interim paper: 20%

Final project:  50%

A consistent pattern of improvement will result in your later work being weighted more heavily. People will start at different places; I’m not going to compare you to one another but see whether you engaged with the course, both the readings and the media work.
