d3 seems to be a good tool for plotting cartogram with Cartogram.js. You can check out this website (http://prag.ma/code/d3-cartogram/) for an example of interactive exploration of Census data using cartograms.
Introduction to R / Installation R Studio
For those of you who are new to the statistic program R, which we’re going to use in the Lab on Thursday, take a look at http://tryr.codeschool.com/, a free interactive introduction to R, similar to Codecademy.
Please also don’t forget to install RStudio before class (see Lab 3 page).

As promised, here is some information about Tableau:

- On the landing page you’ll get to at the link above, fill out the form on the right hand side of the page. Under “Job Title”, mark Student; and under “Organization”, please input “UC Berkeley School of Information”.

You need to run Windows in order to use Tableau. If you own a Mac, you can you can get all the software needed to do this for free:
