Session 16 (Mar 13)

Midterm Presentations:

This presentation will not be graded. It is simply an early and informal opportunity to pitch your major project plan to an interested audience of peers, then invite their questions, comments, and feedback.

  • Timing guidance: 5 minutes to present, 5 minutes for Q&A.
  • In the interest of time, teams may elect 1 member to present, but the full team should stand together at the front of the room in support of their presenter, and so all can field Q&A.
  • Create a simple 5-slide presentation. Suggested content as follows:
    1. SLIDE 1: TITLE SLIDE
      • Project name
      • Team name + team members (or your name, if working solo)
      • Class name
      • Date
    2. SLIDE 2: PROJECT DESCRIPTION
      • Basic context to help your audience understand your project, such as…
      • Client: What they do, their business goals, and anything about their current situation relevant to your research.
      • Research goal(s): What are you hoping to accomplish with this project?
      • User profile: A brief description of specific users you consider most relevant to your research.
      • Why this is interesting: What drew you to this project?
    3. SLIDE 3: RESEARCH QUESTIONS & ASSUMPTIONS
      • At least 2 of each.
    4. SLIDE 4: RESEARCH METHODS
      • List the methods you’ve selected for your project and plan to say a few words about why you chose them over other options.
    5. SLIDE 5: Q&A
      • That’s it. Just “Q&A”. Nothing more to add for this slide.

Presentation creativity is certainly welcome — particularly if it helps tell the story of your project plan — but this is intended to require no more than 45-60 minutes of your (team’s) time. Simplicity and minimalism are your friends. :)
