Choose a domain (or industry or subject area) that’s interesting to you. Write one paragraph explaining why you find it interesting. Write another paragraph in which you answer the five key questions for describing organizing systems (listed in section 1.3 of the The Discipline of Organizing) for your domain. Please do not choose closets or kitchens as your domain.

Both paragraphs, combined, may not be more than 500 words. Ensure your writing is clear, concise and well organized. This course will involve a substantial amount of writing. If you’re uncomfortable with academic writing, speak with Bob or your section’s teaching assistant, or consult Berkeley’s Student Learning Center Writing Program.

You will explore the organization of the domain you choose during weekly section discussions. You will also write an extended case study on a particular organizing system in this domain at the end of the course. This exercise and others will help you practice applying this course’s concepts to your interests.
