Midterm

You have two options for the midterm.

1. Take the midterm on March 17 during class time. A study guide should help you prepare for the exam.

2. Write a 2,000 words essay on one of  these topics due March 16.  If you choose the essay option instead of a midterm exam, you must “declare your intention” to us by March 3, giving what particular case you will discuss.  And you must submit an outline, with some of the readings you intend to use to support your argument by March 10 (you can, of course, add other readings after this date).  At each stage, you must also receive permission from us to go ahead–it will probably be wise to arrange a meeting with one of us before you begin.  If you do not receive permission or if the paper is not ready by the due date (midnight on March 16) you will be expected to take the exam.
