This is a seminar — you will be expected to have done the readings before class and participate actively the discussion.
We won’t have a series of assignments. Your major task is to produce a media product appropriate to your field and interests and an accompanying essay reflecting on your topic, your choice of media, and how what you did relates to the topics in the course. This product may be something that you are producing for another purpose, including another class. For example, you may be producing a multimedia report for a client, or reporting on research that you are doing. For iSchool students, this can be a part of their final project report and presentation.
You will present this work to the class at the end of the semester. We will also view partial producs and working drafts along the way.
This is not a heavy-duty media production class. We will use relatively accessible tools to practice producing examples of a range of media.
