Project Teams

Your project presentations are scheduled for Thursday, Nov 29th. We will start class promptly at 6:10 so please arrive on time and ready to go.

Please bring two hard copies of your final project plans to class.

You will have up to 10 minutes for your team presentation followed by up to 5 minutes of follow-up questions from the class.

The format of your presentation should be based on what your team believes will be most valuable to share with the class. Consider offering us an overview of your project along with the key insights and challenges from your process. Not everyone is required to speak, but different team members are free to present different parts of the project.

Prior to class on the 29th, please have one person from your team post a comment to this page that includes:
– Project title
– A brief description
– Team member names

This is the order of teams:
Ranger Schedules
Ideal.ly
Abduct, Coerce, Develop (AbCD)
Sports IT
Startup Smashup
BentoGo

Technical note:
We won’t have time to spare troubleshooting any technical issues that may arise. If your team is using software and has any concerns about getting the content to play, we encourage you to arrive at class early to test your presentation beforehand. Note: there is no requirement to use powerpoint, etc. This is simply to advise teams that will be using technical presentation aids.

We’re looking forward to seeing your presentations!

  1. Title: Optimizing the Ranger Scheduling Process at Acadia National Park
Team Members: Julia Kosheleva, Sasaki Masanori, Colin MacArthur, Charles Wang

Current ranger schedules often do not maximize the time park rangers spend with visitors at Acadia National Park. Rangers often spend much of their work day stuck in traffic, commuting between distant corners of the park, or waiting for the park’s public transportation system. The project team will design and implement an automated system that uses a statistical algorithm to suggest ranger schedules that optimize the time rangers spend with members of the public.

  2. Title: AbCD (Abduct, Coerce, Develop)
Team Members: Mark Brazinski, Ignacio Perez, Raymon Sutedjo-The, Andrew Win, Rina Yahya

“The Galactic Empire controls the galaxy using Death Stars, but there’s a shortage at the moment. They need resources to build more Death Stars, so they look to Earths as a viable option. However, due the large distance in light years to Earth, it is necessary to build a portal on Earth to connect both galaxies physically. Thus, they hire a consultant team (MIMS) to plan and execute project AbCD…”

Project objective: kidnap 13 scientists, coerce them into doing research (re: building an inter-spatial portal using Earth’s resources), and receive concrete recommendations by July 13, 2013.

  3. Startup Smashup
Members: Yezi Dong, Chirag Kothari, Howard Lam

“Students are fertile ideators of innovative services and products. However, they often lack the experience needed to viably execute their ideas. Key commercialization skills, such as writing proposals or business plans, are absent in non-business curricula; emphasis is often placed solely on the technology but less credence is paid to the intricacies of running a successful business. To address this, we will host a 3-day event to help these students develop key entrepreneurial abilities needed to take a concept to commercialization.”

  4. Title: Time To Sport
Members: Sam Tokheim, Gregory Shapiro, Mads Jarner Brevadt, Simone Zimmermann

Developing of a mobile app and a webpage, which help users to arrange and coordinate sport events with friends or random people.
