Syllabus….Finding Health in the US: Healthcare and the Information Economy

Course Overview:

Health and healthcare have profound impact on society’s well being and economic productivity. Health care reform, recent innovations and ongoing economic forces are placing unprecedented  pressure on the health care system.

Patients, purchasers, regulators and other key stakeholders are demanding that care be readily accessible, proactive, and focused on improving health while remaining affordable.  The health care system, policy makers, innovators and others are responding by developing new care models and tools that focus on patient and customer centricity.  In addition, these new models are using information in innovative ways while striving to create seamless integration of care.

Following a review of the current trends in health care , the course will explore the relationship between health, healthcare and the role of data and information.  We will look into the role of disruptors and non-traditional players in the  healthcare system.  In addition we’ll delve into information strategies being utilized by healthcare providers, patients, payers, and other key stakeholders to improve care while controlling costs. Health and healthcare leaders ranging from leaders in integrated care to startups  will serve as guest lecturers, providing tangible perspective to our discussions.
