Hands On: Photo viewing, organizing, and editing software
If you aren’t already using photo editing and/or management software, look at the software that came with your computer.
Mac:
- Preview for viewing;
- iPhoto for viewing, editing, and data management.
Windows 7:
- Windows Photo Viewer for viewing
- Windows Live Photo Gallery
If this all sounds way too elementary, don’t worry — and if this sounds too advanced, ditto. Students are likely to range from complete novices to experts in photos, audio, and/or video.
More advanced students: I highly recommend that you adopt Adobe Lightroom for viewing, organizing, and editing. You can download a free trial of Lightroom 3. Lightroom 4 beta is publicly available, and free. Don’t buy Lightroom 3 — it’ll be obsolete soon, and academic version does not allow discounted upgrading.
