Tell a Story in One Image

Lewis Hine’s caption: “The Mill: A moment’s glimpse of the outer world. Said she was 11 years old. Been working over a year.” Rhodes Mfg. Co. Lincolnton, North Carolina.

Photojournalists often say that they have to tell a story in one image.

Try it!  You CAN use a title (headline) and caption, but think of them as a newspaper article headline or caption: i.e., you can’t say too much. And your image has to capture the attention of your viewers.

For examples and inspiration, see the blog No Caption Needed.
